The art of mother-of-pearl inlay is a magic that “turns shell into gold.” The iridescent hues of the shell are meticulously polished into strands as thin as a cicada’s wing, then embedded into a lacquer base through countless gentle taps to form landscapes, pavilions, flowers, birds, and clouds. When light glances across the surface, the patterns come to life—shimmering fragments precipitated by the ocean and the passage of time, embodying the subtlety and vibrant splendour of Eastern aesthetics.
